FAQ

After how many days do I need to do a repeat chest X-ray for pneumonia?
If the patient's condition does not worsen (there is no repeated fever or shortness of breath), a control X-ray is usually performed after 8-10 days to assess the effectiveness of antibacterial therapy.

Doctor: Starovoytova Svetlana Yurievnа
Why are so many X-rays performed, why is one not enough?
With X-rays, we get a summation image, since all structures (bones, soft tissues, organs) are superimposed on each other along the beam of rays. Sometimes it is difficult to determine the exact location of the process or to see individual types of fractures and dislocations of fragments. Therefore, the polypositional method is used when several projections are made in order to examine the organ under study in more detail and make a correct diagnosis.

Doctor: Starovoytova Svetlana Yurievnа
Over the past six months, I have had two CT scans of the chest and an X-ray of the knee joint, and now the doctor has prescribed an MRI scan of the knee joint. Isn't it dangerous to do so much research in a short period of time?
Modern computed tomographs and X-ray machines can significantly reduce radiation exposure. Moreover, radiation doses are recorded at each examination, which helps the radiologist to avoid exceeding the permissible limits and, if necessary, to suggest an alternative imaging method. MRI is based on the use of electromagnetic waves in a permanent magnetic field and is not associated with X-rays, so it does not provide additional radiation exposure.
