Electroneuromyography in patients with an implanted pacemaker
Muscle and nerve diagnostics using electroneuromyography in patients with an implanted pacemaker.
Electroneuromyography (ENMG) is a diagnostic method that evaluates the function of the peripheral nerves and muscles. It helps identify neurological diseases and the effects of injuries and neuromuscular conduction disorders. However, the standard procedure can pose risks for patients with implanted pacemakers.
Olymp Clinic MARS provides supervised ENMG diagnostics. Before the examination, an arrhythmologist adjusts the pacemaker's parameters, monitors its operation during the procedure, and restores the original settings after its completion. This allows patients with an implanted device to undergo important diagnostics without risking their health.
Before an ENMG is performed, the patient must provide a pacemaker's ID card or other medical documentation containing information about the device. The arrhythmologist will then evaluate its parameters and correct them if necessary.
Electrodes are placed on the patient's skin to register the activity of nerve impulses during the examination. In some cases, an ENMG with a needle electrode is used, in which a thin electrode is inserted into a muscle fiber. The patient is asked to perform simple movements, to help assess the neuromuscular system's reaction. During the study, the arrhythmologist monitors the pacemaker’s operation and restores its original settings after the procedure.
We use advanced diagnostic equipment that helps perform ENMG.
ENMG helps identify neurological pathologies such as peripheral neuropathies, carpal tunnel syndrome, muscular dystrophies, neuromuscular conduction disorders, and trauma complications.
