Displaced bone fragments or complex fractures require surgical intervention - metacarpal osteosynthesis. The surgery involves repositioning (apposition) bone fragments and fixing them with steel components such as plates, screws, pins or rods. Surgery method and fixation devices are selected by the surgeon based on the nature of the fracture and medical indications. The period of postoperative external immobilization depends on the fixators used. In open or complex metacarpal fractures, an external fixation device is used.

The decision to start rehabilitation treatment and its timing is based on each patient's specific case. The primary goals of rehabilitation are to restore strength, range of motion and functionality of the hand.
