Lymphatic and venous malformations treatment
Lymphatic and venous malformations are congenital vascular disorders with various symptoms, including pain, swelling, heaviness, and distension. Sclerotherapy and laser treatment are considered the most effective methods of treating such malformations.
Sclerotherapy involves injecting a special drug into the cavity of the malformation under ultrasound guidance. This triggers physical and chemical processes in the LMs and VMs causing them to shrink and alleviating symptoms. This method is safe and widely used. Unlike open surgery, sclerotherapy does not require incisions and has a short recovery time.
Before undergoing sclerotherapy, patients must undergo preoperative tests and a medical consultation.
Depending on the location and size of the vascular malformation, sclerotherapy can be performed with either local or general anesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon injects a liquid medication into the malformation using an ultrasound device for navigation.
The rehabilitation process is brief, and patients can typically be discharged a few hours after sclerotherapy. We recommend pharmacotherapy and temporary compression in the area of sclerotherapy.
