Hand tendon surgical suturing
Surgical procedure designed to repair damaged tendons and restore finger function.
Hand tendons are dense, inelastic connective tissue structures that transmit force from the muscles to the finger joints. They can be damaged by sudden movements, injuries, or cuts, leading to loss of finger mobility.
Healing injuries often result in scarring and adhesions forming, which can hinder movement. Surgical treatment, such as tenolysis or tendon plasty, can help to restore finger function and prevent contractures from developing.
Before the procedure, the patient will undergo laboratory diagnostics to identify any risks and select the most suitable intervention plan. If the patient has additional health conditions, they may also need to consult with a primary care specialist or cardiologist.
The procedure is performed under anesthesia. The surgeon accesses the injured area of the hand, removes the scar tissue, and sews the tendon directly. If the injury is old or a primary suture cannot be applied, a tendon plasty technique is used. In this technique, a channel is formed into which a silicone implant is temporarily inserted to create a complete channel. After some time, the implant is replaced with the patient's own tendon, typically taken from the leg or forearm.
We use microsurgical instruments that enable manipulation of delicate tendon structures under magnification.
A course of rehabilitation is recommended after surgery, including physical therapy, massage therapy, and exercise therapy, as well as sessions with a rehabilitation specialist. The goal is to reduce swelling and pain while restoring finger mobility to avoid contractures and repeat surgeries. Significant improvement is usually observed within a month, and full recovery takes several months.
Benefits
All stages supervised
Specialists supervise rehabilitation, which reduces the risk of complications.
Individualized approach
The type of intervention depends on the age of the injury and the condition of the tissues.
Advanced techniques
Microsurgical techniques and materials are used to ensure reliable suturing.
Hand function restored
The surgery helps restore finger movement.
