Holter monitor
Holter monitor is a small device used for continuous ECG recording. It is designed to monitor the heart function in a patient's daily life.
A Holter monitor records data continuously for a day or longer. This helps identify problems like arrhythmias, ischemic changes, and the body's response to physical or emotional stress. This test is especially useful when symptoms strike at random or in certain situations, but are not caught during a checkup.
The day before the device is installed, it is recommended to avoid alcohol, strong coffee, and tea, and to reduce the level of physical and emotional stress. Be sure to shower prior to installation, since the device is not waterproof. Choose loose, comfortable clothing without metal elements and remove jewelry and watches to prevent data distortion. If there is chest hair, shaving may be necessary to ensure better contact between the electrodes and the skin.
Electrodes are placed on the patient's chest and connected to a compact recorder. The recorder monitors heart activity and/or blood pressure for 24 to 72 hours. An ABPM may also be attached along with a Holter monitor for daily arterial pressure checks. The patient continues their regular activities, including going to work, resting, and performing everyday tasks. It is important to record any symptoms and activities in a special diary. This information helps interpret the data more accurately.
Olymp Clinic utilizes advanced digital Holter monitors, which are highly accurate, lightweight, and comfortable to wear. They do not restrict movement or cause discomfort, and record signals throughout the entire monitoring period.
After removing the device, the cardiologist analyzes the obtained data and interprets the results, considering the patient's notes and clinical indicators. Based on this analysis, you receive treatment recommendations or further examination referrals. No special rehabilitation is required.
