Labial adhesion separation surgery in girls
Minimally invasive procedure to remove labial adhesions and restore urinary function.
Adhesion, also known as labial fusion, most often occurs in prepubescent girls. It is usually caused by allergic reactions, poor hygiene, or inflammatory diseases of the external genital organs.
In many cases, adhesions do not cause any symptoms and are discovered during a routine exam. However, sometimes adhesions lead to urinary dysfunction, causing significant discomfort. In such cases, surgical treatment is indicated.
A pediatric gynecologist must examine the patient before the surgery.
It is a brief outpatient procedure that takes only a few minutes. First, the perineal area is treated with an antiseptic solution. Then, an anesthetic gel or cream is applied to the area of fusion. After 5-15 minutes, the surgeon carefully cuts the adhesion using a specialized probe and scalpel to avoid damaging the surrounding healthy tissue.
Once the procedure is finished, the child can go home. The mother will receive recommendations for perineal care and treatment.
