Implantable pacemaker programming
Adjustment and monitoring of an implanted pacemaker to optimize heart rhythm.
An implantable pacemaker is a device that helps regulate heart rhythm and prevent malfunctions.
After installing a pacemaker, it is important to undergo regular programming. This ensures that the device is functioning properly, its parameters are adapted to the heart's changing needs, and replacement is identified in a timely manner. Pacemaker programming is a precise procedure that optimizes performance and extends the device's service life. Our clinic programs pacemakers from various manufacturers, taking into account each patient's specific characteristics.
The patient needs to provide information about their pacemaker. These details can be found on the pacemaker ID card, in the discharge summary from the clinic where it was installed, or in the previous programming protocol. It is also advisable to bring ECG results from the past year, discharge summaries from medical institutions where treatment was received, and a list of current medications, including dosage and frequency.
Pacemaker programming is an outpatient procedure that takes 30–60 minutes and causes no discomfort. During the procedure, the patient sits or lies down. The specialist uses a special programming device applied to the skin over the implantation site, typically in the subclavian area. The device reads information and allows changes to be made to the pacemaker's settings. An electrocardiogram (ECG) is also performed to evaluate heart function and the pacemaker's effect on heart rhythm. Based on this data, the pacemaker settings are adjusted. Дополнительно проводится электрокардиография (ЭКГ) для оценки работы сердца и влияния ЭКС на сердечный ритм. На основании полученных данных врач корректирует параметры кардиостимулятора.
The procedure is performed using a programming device designed to read and change the pacemaker's operating parameters without having to remove it.
After the procedure, the doctor will explain what changes were made to the device and what recommendations must be followed. Properly selected pacemaker settings can help normalize heart rhythm, prevent arrhythmia attacks, and improve overall well-being.
