FAQ

Why does my wrist hurt with exertion?
The wrist joint is complex and made up of many components. It consists of numerous bones and an even larger number of ligaments. Old, initially undiagnosed wrist bone fractures or ligament tears can lead to pain during activities like lifting weights, doing push-ups, or applying pressure. This pain may occur months or even years after the injury. However, such damage can trigger accelerated wear and tear of the joint, which, if left untreated, may become impossible to address with conservative or minimally invasive methods. Any wrist pain, especially following injuries—whether recent or old—requires thorough diagnostics.

What should I do about a lump on my wrist?
The most common growth that can appear in the wrist area is a ganglion cyst, sometimes referred to as a 'hygroma.' This forms as a 'hernia' of the joint capsule and gradually fills with fluid that normally lubricates the joint. While these formations are benign, they can be painful during certain movements and may be aesthetically noticeable.

Modern hand surgery allows for both open and minimally invasive arthroscopic removal of ganglion cysts. However, it is essential to first accurately assess the nature of the lump and confirm its benignity through a comprehensive clinical and instrumental diagnostics.

Why are my fingers numb?
Numbness and stiffness in the fingers of the hand, especially without injury and occurring at night or in the morning, is often due to nerve problems in the joints rather than, for example, the neck. Peripheral edema and the position of the hand can cause nerves to become compressed in narrow passages, leading to insufficient blood flow. This process initially causes an unpleasant feeling of numbness in the area controlled by the affected nerve, but if not diagnosed in time, it can progress to muscle atrophy in the regions the nerve supplies.

Numbness in the fingers, difficulty with fine motor skills, and a decrease in hand strength are symptoms that require thorough diagnosis and timely surgical or nonsurgical treatment.
