Pediatric vaginal swab
Procedure designed to analyze microflora and detect inflammatory processes.

Vaginal swab is one of the easiest and most informative diagnostic methods in pediatric gynecology. This test is prescribed in cases of discharge, itching, pain, discomfort, or suspected inflammatory processes in the genital area.
Pediatric vaginal smear samples are collected according to strict age protocols. For younger children, the procedure is performed through the hymen's natural opening using pediatric instruments. For adolescents, the swab is taken on a gynecological chair if necessary. This test helps identify vaginitis, candidiasis, and other specific infections. It also helps assess vaginal microflora and discharge.
No special preparation is required. The test cannot be performed during menstruation. The smear test can only be performed 5–7 days after the end of the antibiotic treatment. Sexually active teenagers should temporarily refrain from sexual intercourse.
Younger girls are examined on a couch, and adolescents in a gynecological chair if necessary. Material is carefully collected using a disposable sterile probe or spatula with a rounded end. The process is brief and generally painless for the child. The swab is placed on a microscope slide and sent to the laboratory for microscopic analysis.
We use sanitized disposable instruments adapted for children, including plastic spatulas and small probe brushes.
Test results are typically available within one to three business days. The report includes key findings on vaginal cleanliness, potential inflammatory processes, fungal presence, and bacterial contamination. Additionally, the cellular composition and microflora are assessed.
