Spermatocelectomy
A surgical procedure to remove a cystic mass in the testicular epididymis.
Spermatocele is a fluid-filled mass that forms in the testicular epididymis, which is located above and behind the testicle. These cysts are usually harmless, but may cause pain and a tightness in the scrotum as they increase in size.
Spermatocelectomy is the most effective treatment for this problem. The surgery is performed through a small incision in the scrotum, minimising the risk of damage to the surrounding tissue and preserving fertility.
Consultation with a urologist to assess the condition of the cyst. Ultrasound of the scrotum to determine the size and location of the cyst. Common blood test and a coagulogram.
Spermatocelectomy is performed under sedation combined with local anaesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision in the skin of the scrotum, isolates the testicular appendage and exposes the cystic mass. The cyst is separated from the adjacent tissues and carefully removed. If the cyst was connected to the appendage through a narrow canal, it is also excised to prevent recurrence. After the cyst is removed, the surgeon applies cosmetic stitches to the wound. The entire procedure usually takes about 30-60 minutes.
Scalpels and microscopic instruments.
The patient is advised to stay in bed for the first few days, avoid physical exertion and heavy lifting. Wear supportive undergarments to reduce swelling, keep the wound clean and follow all recommendations.
