Pediatric peripheral nerve ultrasound
Peripheral nerve ultrasound is a safe way to assess the nervous system, helping identify various pathological changes that disrupt the conduction of nerve impulses. This method helps diagnose inflammation and trauma in nervous system dysfunction in children.
No special preparation is required, the child only needs to remove clothing and jewelry from the targeted area. Some cases may require additional examinations, such as MRI.
The child is positioned on a diagnostic couch. A gel is applied to the skin to improve the conductivity of ultrasound. A diagnostician uses a specialized transducer to examine the targeted area. During the scan, the structure, thickness, and contours of the nerve and adjacent tissues are thoroughly assessed. In some cases, the specialist may request that the child adjust the position of the limb to enhance visualization of the nerve dynamics. The entire procedure takes about 15-30 minutes, is painless, and does not cause discomfort.
Olymp Clinic specialists use expert-class high-frequency ultrasound machines equipped with high-resolution linear transducers. This provides detailed visualization of small nerve branches even in younger children.
Children can return to their regular activities immediately after the procedure, with no restrictions. Ultrasound does not cause side effects and does not require recovery. You receive additional examinations or treatment based on the results.
