Pediatric hip ultrasound
Hip ultrasound is a safe and painless ultrasound examination that helps assess the development and condition of the hip joints in infants and young children.
No special preparation is required before an ultrasound. The child should be calm, so it is best to perform the examination after feeding or sleeping. You may need to bring the results of previous examinations with you.
The baby is laid on the side on a comfortable couch. A small amount of gel is applied to the hip joint area and an ultrasound sensor is placed on top. The examination is performed on both sides, first on one joint, then on the other. The specialist assesses the position and shape of the femoral head, its connection to the joint cavity, the angle of inclination, and the degree of maturity of the joint structures. The process takes about 10-15 minutes.
We use advanced ultrasound machines with high-frequency sensors that give high-resolution, accurate images, even with newborns. It helps assess both the static image and the joint's movement in real time.
Children can return to their regular activities immediately after the ultrasound. There are no restrictions. In case of any abnormalities, patients will be referred to an orthopedist or scheduled for a follow-up examination.
