Emergency maxillofacial surgery
Surgical care in cases of severe trauma and acute conditions of the face and neck.
Emergency maxillofacial surgery includes a variety of surgical procedures aimed at rescuing patients with acute injuries to the face and neck and restoring impaired functions. These conditions may be accompanied by bleeding, respiratory distress, and infection, requiring immediate medical intervention.
We have a 24-hour ready surgical team, advanced equipment, and a multidisciplinary hospital, which helps us promptly assess the severity of a patient's condition and provide timely treatment. The most common treatment indications are facial bone fractures, penetrating wounds, extensive soft tissue injuries, abscesses, and phlegmon, as well as life-threatening conditions such as airway blockage due to edema or massive arterial bleeding.
In emergency situations, surgery preparation is performed simultaneously with first aid. Diagnostic procedures are performed to identify the issue: laboratory tests, CT scans, or X-rays, and specialist consultations. Planned interventions may require a standard preoperative examination, including an ECG, a coagulogram, and blood and urine tests.
Treatment depends on the location and extent of the damage. For jaw and facial bone fractures, the surgeon performs closed or open reduction with bone fusion. In case of bleeding, the surgeon ligates the lingual, facial, or external carotid arteries or stops the bleeding by other methods. Asphyxia prevention involves performing a tracheostomy. Soft tissue damage is sutured and, if necessary, restored using plastic surgery techniques. In cases of purulent complications, the focus is opened, drained, and sanitized.
We use advanced surgical and anesthesia equipment.
The recovery period depends on the nature and extent of the injury. After surgery, patients are under medical supervision and receive antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic therapy. Severe injuries may require physical or speech therapy, and orthodontic care.
