Bioelectrical impedance analysis
Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is a modern, noninvasive diagnostic method used to determine body composition. It involves measuring the electrical resistance of body tissues.

This procedure can accurately determine the ratio of fat, muscle, bone, and water mass. It is widely used in dietetics, sports medicine, and the treatment of metabolic disorders. It helps assess overall body condition, monitor nutrition and training progress, and develop personalized weight management recommendations.
The day before and the day of the procedure, avoid physical exertion, massages, lymphatic drainage procedures, baths, and saunas. It is also advisable to avoid alcohol and coffee. Before the procedure, remove any metal jewelry.
The test is done while the patient is lying down. Small electrodes are placed on the skin and a weak electric current is sent through the body. The device then measures how different tissues conduct the current. Based on this data, the system calculates the percentage of fat, water, muscle, bone mass, body mass index (BMI), visceral fat level, and metabolic age. The entire procedure takes 10-15 minutes.
BIA uses a body composition analyzer, which is equipped with sensors that measure resistance. Depending on the model, the device may be handheld, floor-mounted, or stationary with multiple electrodes. Contemporary systems deliver accurate analysis and immediate results.
BIA is completely safe and does not require any recovery time. Patients can return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure. The obtained data helps specialists adjust patients' diets, physical activities, and treatment plans.
