Sangapuri — what kind of operation?
Sangapuri is a blepharoplasty aimed at correcting Asian eyelids. Asian eyes can be either with or without a fold, with or without epicanthus. Excessive development of orbital fatty tissue in the eastern eyes and with age can lead to ophthalmological problems such as narrowing of the visual field. The sangapuri operation allows you to create a crease on the upper eyelid, making the look more open.
It is believed that sangapuri turns Asian eyes into European ones. It is technically possible to change Asian eyes with epicanthus and excess adipose tissue so that they look almost like European ones, but this gives the face an unnatural appearance.
Before the operation, a consultation with a plastic surgeon and modeling of planned changes are carried out at Olympus Clinics. Surgical intervention is never performed without a preliminary conversation. Our experts advise you to allocate a lot of time to make a decision, since the result after surgery lasts a lifetime.
Indications and contraindications for sangapuri
Sangapuri is performed at the request of the patient, who may be dissatisfied with the shape of his eyes or wants to make the look more expressive and open. Aesthetic correction allows you to remove excess periorbital fat, eliminate overhanging of the upper eyelid and drooping corners of the eyes.
Sometimes surgery is chosen not only to improve the appearance of the eyes, but also to improve the functionality of the eyelids, for example, to eliminate ptosis (drooping eyelid), which can limit the field of vision.
The operation is not performed when the patient has the following contraindications:
Inflammatory diseases
Diabetes mellitus
Acute infections
Blood clotting disorders
Heart disease
Pregnancy
Oncological diseases
Chronic and acute eye diseases
And how is blepharoplasty performed on Asian eyelids?
This is a complex operation that requires special training and significant experience from the surgeon. And from the patient — a standard examination, which includes general clinical and biochemical laboratory tests, ECG, FLG.
There are two methods of performing the operation, which differ in the location of the incision:
External: With this method, the surgeon creates incisions in the natural fold of the upper eyelid: along the eyelash growth line and 5-10 mm above its edge. A double supraorbital fold is formed, the surgeon removes excess skin and adipose tissue of the upper eyelid. Then the surgeon stitches the edges of the incision in layers and applies a continuous cosmetic suture. If necessary, the surgeon removes the epicanthus (a fold of skin at the inner corner of the eye).
Internal: This method is suitable for patients with less pronounced features of Asian eyelids. The surgeon creates a 1 mm incision on the inside of the eyelid. During the operation, a supraorbital fold is formed, and then the specialist stitches all the layers of tissue between the tendon of the upper eyelid muscle and the skin, which strengthens the fold. Then the stitches are applied through miniature punctures in the skin of the eyelid.
Sangapuri is performed under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. After 1-2 hours, you can return home. Our experts advise you to stay in the hospital for at least a day so that the surgeon and the team of Olympus Clinics monitor your safety.
After any type of eyelid correction, the pain is minor and can be easily relieved with painkillers.
The stitches are removed 4-5 days after surgery.
Rehabilitation after sangapuri
Rehabilitation after blepharoplasty surgery for Asian eyes requires careful care and compliance with the surgeon's recommendations so that healing takes place smoothly and without complications. Described the recovery process and tips for each period:
The first days after surgery
Mild pain and swelling may occur in the first few days after surgery. Usually the pain is moderate and relieved by painkillers prescribed by a doctor. Swelling and bruising around the eyes are a natural reaction. They may increase during the first 48 hours, and then gradually subside.
What to do? During the first two days, we recommend doing cold compresses on the eyes to reduce swelling and bruising. Compresses should be applied through a soft cloth so as not to damage the skin. Avoid getting water on the seams.
Apply ointments or creams prescribed by your doctor to avoid infection and speed up healing.
The first two weeks
Restriction of physical activity:
Do not strain the body with intense physical exertion, lifting weights. Also, do not try not to make sudden head movements for at least two weeks.
Gradually return to your usual activity, following the doctor's recommendations.
Special head position:
Sleep with your head up to reduce swelling. To do this, use additional pillows.
Eye protection from the sun:
Wear sunglasses and a hat to protect your eyes from direct sunlight, which can cause pigmentation and slow healing.
The period is up to 6 weeks
Seam care:
Stitches are usually removed 4-5 days after surgery, but the eyelid area needs to continue to be cared for and recommended remedies applied to accelerate healing.
Minimizing facial expressions:
Avoid active facial expressions to prevent stretching of the skin around the eyes.
Gradually return to your usual activities:
Increase physical activity, but listen to your body and avoid overexertion.
Long-term recommendations
Eye condition monitoring:
Visit your doctor periodically to monitor the healing process and identify possible complications in the early stages. Olympus Clinic specialists schedule follow-up visits and keep in touch with the patient after surgery. During rehabilitation, you will be surrounded by support, and your health will be under the supervision of experienced doctors.
Skin protection and care:
Continue to use sunscreens and avoid direct sun exposure to the eye area.
Using moisturizers:
Moisturize the skin around the eyes regularly to maintain its health and elasticity.
What about the scars after sangapuri?
Postoperative scars lighten and become almost invisible after a month. The preliminary results of the plastic surgery become visible after two to three weeks, and the final changes appear on the 40-60 day.
