How to take care of dry skin?

Dry skin is not just a feeling of tightness after a shower. This is a separate type of skin, like combination or oily. If you have dry skin, then hydration is just a minimum of a beauty routine. You need to make a comprehensive care plan to forget about tightness, peeling and itching. In the article we will talk about cleansing and nourishing dry skin.

How to take care of dry skin? Svetlana Lvovna, cosmetologist, dermatovenerologist at Olympus Clinic Sas (Artyukhina), told everything in detail.

How to identify dry skin?

Not sure if your skin is dry? There are signs that will help determine this.

Do you feel tightness of the skin all over your face?
Does your skin never shine?
Does your makeup last all day?
Sometimes there are dry spots and slight redness?
Does the skin look more nourished after applying a greasy cream?

If you answered all these questions "Yes", there is a high probability that you have a dry skin type.

Not to be confused with dehydrated!

Unlike dry skin, dehydrated skin lacks moisture, not lipids. This is not a skin type, but a temporary and reversible problem. This phenomenon can also affect all skin types.

Why is the skin dehydrated?

There are factors that change the skin barrier, which must retain moisture in the tissues. External factors: cold, heat, aggressive components in cosmetics (sulfates, alcohols, high concentrations of acids), the use of water-alcohol gels, shaving, taking medications. And internal factors: hormonal changes, age-related changes, drinking regime.

How does dehydrated skin feel?

Dehydration of the skin is a seasonal condition. It feels stretched, and after a slight pressure during macro photography, creases and wrinkles may appear. Peeling occurs on certain areas of the face and can be combined with greasy shine. Dry skin is a seasonal defect.

Is dry skin associated with poor care?

That's not so. Dry skin is associated with a violation of the hydrolipidic mantle. This is a genetically determined factor. But improper care can worsen the symptoms of dryness.

Rules for dry skin care

Dry skin means that you will have to focus on special care and develop habits that need to be repeated every day. Although dryness is the result of internal factors (which are difficult to deal with), it is also aggravated by external ones.

So, why is it better to avoid hot showers and baths? What components should be in a moisturizer? And which ones to avoid? Is exfoliation prohibited? Let's talk about everything now.

1. Wash your face with warm water, not hot

Hot water is the enemy of your skin. It disrupts the hydrolipidic mantle, which can increase dryness. Try switching to washing your face with warm water and see how your skin reacts.

2. Use mild cleansing products

Choose cleansing products for dry skin type. They may contain:

Moisturizing ingredients (glycerin, hyaluronic acid, various oils).
Neutral pH (about 5.5).
Creamy or oily texture.
Alcohol-free and fragrance-free.

3. Don't be afraid to exfoliate your skin

People with dry skin often do not use exfoliators because they are afraid that they will dry out the already dry skin even more. When you skip the exfoliation step, dead cells can accumulate on the surface of the skin, making it dull and flaky. Excessive hyperkeratosis emphasizes the depth of wrinkles and visually the skin looks more age-related.

4. Add a serum with hyaluronic acid to the care

Hyaluronic acid is a friend for dry skin. It helps to attract and retain moisture in the tissues. Be sure to include a hyaluronic acid serum in your skin care in addition to your daily moisturizer to get (and keep) as much moisture as possible.

5. Choose a moisturizer wisely

While oily skin can benefit from lighter water-based moisturizers, dry skin needs something more saturated. Choose moisturizers with hyaluronic acid or squalane. For very dry skin, the best ally will be a lipid-replenishing cream. Lipids will act as cement to hold cells together. Like a brick wall: if it doesn't have the necessary cement, it will eventually crumble. It's the same with the skin.

6. Apply moisturizer to wet skin

When you have just come out of the shower or finished washing, do not wipe your face with a towel. The best time to apply a moisturizer is after cleansing, when the skin is still wet. Applying the cream to wet skin allows the moisturizing ingredients to be absorbed better.

7. After the moisturizer, apply oil

If you have very dry skin, apply a few drops of facial oil after moisturizer. The oil helps to consolidate the moisturizing ingredients of the cream and eliminate tightness.

Cosmetic procedures at Olympus Clinics to moisturize dry skin

HydraFacial is a comprehensive treatment that combines deep cleansing of the skin and hydration. As a result, the tone of the epidermis is restored, keratinized cells are exfoliated and irritation disappears. The course consists of six procedures that need to be performed once a week. The procedure is carried out painlessly and comfortably.

Peeling allows you to clean contaminated pores, remove dead cells, restore the beauty and elasticity of the skin. It can be combined with other treatments. Peeling for dry skin is prescribed in a course of four to six sessions. The frequency of sessions depends on the condition of the skin, but usually the procedures are carried out at intervals of two to four weeks.

Biorevitalization is injections of hyaluronic acid and trace elements that enhance tissue hydration, making the skin more dense and hydrated. As a result, the skin sparkles, the texture softens, and the complexion evens out.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally present in the skin and is responsible for its hydration and elasticity. With age, the level of hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases, which leads to dryness and loss of elasticity. Biorevitalization helps to make up for this shortcoming.

Procedure:

Preparation: The skin is cleansed and a local anesthetic cream is applied to reduce discomfort.
Injections: Using a thin needle, the drug is injected into the deep layers of the skin.
Recovery: After the procedure, slight redness and swelling may occur, which usually disappear within a few days.

Advantages:

Moisturizing the skin from the inside.
Softening of fine wrinkles and improving skin tone.
The return of elasticity and improvement of facial contours.

Plasma therapy and hyaluronic therapy in combination is a combination of two popular procedures in cosmetology. The combined use of biorevitalization and PRP therapy helps the skin recover faster after aggressive sun exposure.

Procedure

Preparation: The skin is cleansed and a local anesthetic cream is applied to minimize discomfort.
Blood collection and treatment: Blood is extracted, which is then centrifuged to produce PRP plasma.
Injections: Hyaluronic acid and plasma are injected into problem areas of the skin using thin needles.
Recovery: Slight redness and swelling may occur, which usually disappear within a few days.

Advantages:
Hyaluronic acid provides intense hydration to the skin as it attracts and retains water in the dermis.
PRP therapy is based on the administration of plasma obtained from the blood of patients with a high content of viable platelets. Once in the skin, platelets activate cellular rejuvenation and slow down the aging process of the skin. The result of plasma therapy will be a qualitative change in the skin, thickening and radiance.
