April 16 — World Voice Day

Today, this day is dedicated all over the world to the phenomenon of the human voice and taking care of the health of the vocal apparatus.

A voice is not just a sound. It is a tool for communication, emotions, and inspiration. He can be soft, confident, charming, strict, melodious — and each of us finds his own unique sound in him.
We rarely think about how important it is to protect our voice until we encounter its loss or weakening. But the voice is our daily companion, especially for those who work in professions where the word is the main tool: teachers, actors, vocalists, speakers, presenters.
Why is it important to take care of your voice?

  • It reflects our inner state.
  • Promotes effective communication
  • May be part of a professional identity.
  • And, of course, it makes us recognizable.

And it is on this day that Ekaterina Alekseevna Frolkina, an otorhinolaryngologist, wants to remind you of simple things that will help preserve all the beauty of your voice:

1) We try not to overexert our vocal apparatus (we avoid any forced phonation (shouting and whispering), we do not talk in a noisy environment)
2) We take care of our vocal folds (no increased vocal loads against the background of acute respiratory viral infections, metered vocal loads, do not forget about rest for the voice)
3) We carefully and responsibly approach vocal loads (we avoid eating an hour before the planned increased vocal load (but also no loads on an empty stomach), do not sing / lecture, etc. 2-3 hours before bedtime, we plan vocal loads taking into account various body conditions (menstrual cycle, puberty, pregnancy)
4) Avoid exposure to harmful factors (smoking, alcohol, working in a dusty/polluted room, avoid contact with allergens)
5) We maintain sufficient humidification of the body and indoor air (drinking 1.5 – 2 liters of clean water per day, indoor humidity 45-60%)
6) Do not forget about yourself (sleep and rest regime, 8-hour sleep, balanced diet and SPORTS)
7) Timely rehabilitation of foci of chronic infection (chronic diseases of the palatine tonsils, paranasal sinuses, teeth and others)
8) If there are any pathologies of the voice and hoarseness persists against the background of acute respiratory viral infections for more than 5 days, we do not delay and immediately consult an ENT doctor.
9) And don't forget about routine checkups.

Take care of your voice. He is your strength, energy and beauty.
