Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a severe mental condition that occurs after a traumatic event. It is manifested by obsessive memories, symptoms of anxiety and general tension.
According to WHO, up to 9% of the general population worldwide experiences PTSD.
Reasons:
Common causes of PTSD are: military actions, sexual violence, natural or man-made disasters.
Traumatic events can affect a person in the following ways:
Directly, something happened to him.
Being a witness to a traumatic event.
Having received the news of the incident.
As a result of repeated contact with a traumatic event, someone repeatedly touched on the topic of the event.
Symptoms:
Constant memories, nightmares and thoughts about a traumatic event.
Avoiding places, people, actions, or thoughts related to trauma.
Increased irritability and hyperexcitability (sensitivity to sounds, shallow sleep, constant tension in the body).
A sense of alienation from others and emotional isolation.

The medical method:
With the help of drugs, we can help normalize sleep, reduce anxiety levels, and correct concomitant disorders (a combination of PTSD and depressive/anxiety disorders is high). But, unfortunately, they cannot be the main way to treat the symptoms of PTSD (symptoms of avoidance and invasion), since the brain has learned these strategies and is “stuck" in these experiences. Antidepressants from the group of SSRIs and SSRIs are mainly prescribed. Sometimes an antipsychotic drug may be added.
Non-drug method:
Psychotherapy is the main method of PTSD therapy, the essence of which is to make repeated experiences a part of the past and allow you to move on without getting stuck on it. Non-drug therapies with the highest efficacy data include: Cognitive behavioral areas (CBT): prolonged exposure and cognitive process therapy, DBT protocol, cognitive therapy. Non-CBT: EMDR, narrative exposure therapy.
