Uterine fibroids
Uterine fibroids are benign neoplasms that develop in the muscular layer of the uterus and are one of the most common gynecological diseases in women of reproductive age.
Uterine fibroids occur as a result of the growth of smooth muscle cells, which leads to the formation of nodes. These nodes can be single or multiple, vary in size and are located both completely inside the muscular layer of the uterus, and on its outer surface or in the uterine cavity. Uterine fibroids almost never turn into a malignant tumor — sarcoma, but can cause copious menstruation and pain in the lower abdomen. The exact cause of fibroids is not completely clear. It is believed that the development of fibroids is associated with hormonal changes, in particular with an excess of estrogens. The peak incidence occurs at the age of 30-50 years, during the middle reproductive age. Other causes include genetic predisposition and chronic inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs
Reasons:
An imbalance between estrogen and androgen levels in the body.
Taking steroids.
Diseases of the liver, kidneys or thyroid gland.
Symptoms:
Copious and prolonged menstruation (menorrhagia)
Pain and heaviness in the lower abdomen
Increase in abdominal volume
Frequent urge to urinate
Constipation
Pain during sexual intercourse (dyspareunia)
Infertility or difficulty conceiving
Лечение
Conservative treatment:
It is aimed at controlling symptoms and slowing down tumor growth. The main methods include hemostatic drugs, hormone therapy or the use of drugs that affect hormone receptors. Patients are recommended to have regular medical supervision and ultrasound monitoring to monitor the growth of fibroids.
Surgical treatment:
It is indicated for large fibroids, their rapid growth, pronounced symptoms or complications. The main surgical methods include myomectomy (removal of fibroids while preserving the uterus) and hysterectomy (removal of the uterus). In some cases, uterine artery embolization is used, a method in which blood flow to the fibroid is blocked, which leads to its decrease. The choice of the method depends on the patient's age, the size and location of the fibroid, as well as her reproductive plans.
