Soft tissue infections
Acute inflammatory processes that occur in subcutaneous tissue, muscles and other soft tissues. They can manifest as abscesses (localized purulent inflammation), phlegmon (diffuse inflammation) or infected wounds.
Abscesses are characterized by the formation of a limited cavity filled with pus, and are the result of a bacterial infection that leads to tissue necrosis.
Causes
Bacterial infections
Open injuries, cuts and bites
Surgical interventions
Poor-quality wound treatment
Reduced immunity
Burns and ulcers
Symptoms:
Pain in the area of inflammation
Redness of the skin
Swelling and tissue compaction
Local temperature rise
Purulent discharge
Fever and chills
Difficulties in movement
After-effects
Untreated soft tissue infections can quickly lead to severe complications. Phlegmon can spread, affecting deeper and deeper layers of tissues, up to muscles and bones. Abscesses, if they do not open, can destroy the surrounding tissues and penetrate into the body cavities, causing damage to internal organs. Infected wounds can progress into chronic ulcers or fistulas.
Лечение
Conservative treatment:
It includes mandatory prescribing of antibiotics, which can be administered orally or intravenously, depending on the severity of the condition. In parallel, anti-inflammatory drugs can be used to reduce pain and swelling. In case of infected wounds, it is important to carry out regular bandages with antiseptic agents.
Surgical treatment:
In the presence of abscesses, surgical treatment includes opening and drainage of the purulent cavity. In the case of phlegmon, more extensive surgery may be required to remove necrotic tissues. Infected wounds may also require surgical treatment, especially if the infection spreads deep into the tissues. This may include removal of non-viable tissues (necrectomy) and cleaning of the wound surface.
